The Husband Series

The Husband Series – Mr & Mrs Javan – Mel – Mel’s Postbox

My husband makes me a better parent. I watch as he shows patience to our two-year-old toddler and that I should let her be.

He’s also the one that reminds me that I should respect our differences as individuals.

Melissa Javan, the blogger behind Mel’s Postbox shares with us a few sweet somethings about her husband for Valentines Day.

  1.      Tell me your love story.

We met at a music festival in 2009, kept in contact via social media as friends. Eventually during 2012 we chatted more and met in real life again. Shortly thereafter we started dating long distance. We got married in December 2013 and in February 2015 we moved in together (finally). Before the move I lived in Port Elizabeth and he was in Johannesburg. Now we are both living in the City of Gold.

  1.      Who popped the question & how?

We were at home in Port Elizabeth, talking about marriage when I asked him: when are you going to pop the question? He then got a ring out and asked. I really didn’t know he had a ring – he had wanted to ask me the week before, he said.

  1.      What are those super awesome little things that you love about your hubby?

He gives unselfishly and goes out of his way to serve people. I’ve seen him help strangers, like people living on the street or someone stuck with his car and friends who need help. If he can’t help, he contacts friends to help.

  1.      Name a few things that you feel, that no one can do as good as your husband can?

Same as above. He’s also good at fixing things around the house and killing mosquitoes. He’s an expert guitar player.

  1.      If you could thank your husband today, what would you thank him for?

Thank you for being you Husband.

  1.      What annoying thing does he do that makes you want to kill him when he’s there but that you miss when he’s not around?

He leaves his dirty dishes at his work space. I miss him whenever he’s not around.

  1.      If we could celebrate husband appreciation day, what would you let him do/do    for him to let him know that you appreciate him?

If I have the money I’d buy him a new guitar.

  1.      What are some of the things, that you simply cannot do without your husband?

Hiking, drink whisky or doing road trips.

  1.      What is the one thing you hate to do, that he does for you?

Take out the trash and mopping the floor.

  1. What is the most special thing that he has ever done for you or said to you?

I don’t think there is a most special thing, becausPe there are many small things – like him cooking sometimes or him taking out our toddler for a drive, just so that I can have me-time.

  1.  What are the words that are most frequently exchanged between you two?

  1.  Do you have any special traditions?

We don’t really share things like Valentine’s Day, because it’s a commercial and pagan thing. We do try to celebrate birthdays. Also, once a year we do a family roadtrip where we travel from Joburg to Cape Town or to the Northern Cape.
