The Husband Series – Mr & Mrs Keith – Megan – Hopefull Treasures
February 26, 2018
When it comes to matters of the heart, I am definitely more open and ready to share and be vulnerable. He really struggles with that. He is more the people’s person though, so in social situations I tend to stick to him like glue. He definitely makes social get together’s more bearable for me! We are the best of friends, we fight, we laugh, we cry, we support. We are in this for the long run!
1. Tell me your love story.
Jason and I met at college. We were both studying theology, and I was 1 year ahead of him. When we first met, though, we did not like each other. But we tolerated one another, because we had the same circle of friends. Then he needed a lift to college, and it just so happened that I was the only person able to help him. It was during those car rides, and in the days of Mixit, that our relationship grew into a deep friendship first, and then a loving and committed courtshup, engagement and marriage.
2. Who popped the question & how?
He did! It was Friday 21 November 2008. It was the day before he was set to graduate from college. I had graduated the year before, and was at work. My boss had mentioned to me in the morning that someone was coming to work on the electricity at the office, so I could go home early (all part of the ruse!). I had called Jason to come and fetch me, after he had fetched his dad from the airport. Long story short, he was late to fetch me (also all part of the ruse), and I never knew that so I was highly annoyed with him when he finally arrived. “To make things up to me”, he told me he wanted to go to Kirstenbosch Gardens for a picnic. Oh and he had invited our friend Ryan to join us. I was none the wiser! We arrived at Kirstenbosch, and I was still irritated with him. Ryan arrived, and we found the perfect picnic spot.
We had sat down for not even 2 minutes, and Ryan got up, put his bag on his back, and said he was off to find a bathroom. Off he went, and I was busy looking at the beautiful surrounds, when Jason got my attention and said he had a question to ask me. When I turned to find out what he wanted to ask, he was holding my dream ring! It was the first ring we had seen when we had gone browsing, and I was in love immediately! I couldn’t quite comprehend what was happening. I kept asking if he was serious, and he kept saying yes! Little did I know, that Ryan was hiding in the bushes nearby, trying to take photos of our moment! The 2 of them had gone the day before to scout the perfect location!
3. What are those super awesome little things that you love about your hubby?
The thing I love most is the fact that he can make me laugh like no other person i know! He makes me laugh over everyday things, and I love it. Also, even though I wake up first in the morning, he makes the coffee and tea for us. And even though I know he doesn’t enjoy doing it, he still washes the dishes everyday, because he knows how much I hate doing them!
4. Name a few things that you feel, that no one can do as good as your husband can?
No one can make me laugh like he does, no one loves people the way he does – he is a major people’s person, and ever the social butterfly, no one is a better dad to our son than he is!
5. If you could thank your husband today, what would you thank him for?
I’d thank him for pushing me to do the things he knows I can do well, but I’m too scared to try. I’d thank him for being so patient with me, all the time, and putting up with my kind of crazy. I’d thank him for giving me the freedom to pursue my dreams, even if it means he has to put his on hold for a while.
6. What annoying thing does he do that makes you want to kill him when he’s there but that you miss when he’s not around?
He makes the most annoying and lame Dad Jokes, and repeats them over and over again. As annoying as it is hearing the same joke for the umpteenth time, I do miss them…sometimes!
7. If we could celebrate husband appreciationday, what would you let him do/do for him to let him know that you appreciate him?
I’d cook him his favourite meal of steak egg and chips, and dedicate the entire day to him – anything and everything he would want to do.
8. What are some of the things, that you simply cannot do without your husband?
I cannot watch rugby without him! It’s what we do, especially live games! We love it!
9. What is the one thing you hate to do, that he does for you?
He washes the dishes for me!
10. Share with us a memory that was shared between the both of you, that has become an everlasting milestone?
Probably those car rides too and from college everyday, and all the hours of Mixit conversations. That was where our relationhip grew and evolved!
11. What is the most special thing that he has ever done for you or said to you?
He has always pushed me to pursue my dreams – no matter how big or small, no matter how crazy. He supports me 100%!
12. What are the words that are most frequently exchanged between you two?
I love you, There is tension so let’s hug it out, JASON!!!! , Pooh.
13. Do you have any special traditions? Eg. Valentines dinner etc
We aren’t big on huge celbrations, so for our anniversary or Valentine’s Day we try to do a small gift, and maybe have a nice dinner, usually with our son. It is important to us that he sees us celebrate. We like to go big for each other’s birthday’s though, and try to outdo each other when it comes to gifts or celebrating.
