“We are all trying to constantly make things look better than what they really are, but there’s a fine line between improving yourself and wearing a mask” So says South African singing sensation, Oshri, signed by Akon himself and now residing between New York, Los Angeles and the Mother City. Reaching out to all who will listen through his latest music video, “TOO MUCH”, he states that “you don’t need ‘too much’ to feel good enough about yourself”.

This talented mega-star (who already featured on the Billboard Top 40 without even releasing an album yet, over and above rocking local charts), is boldly stating with the song and video that people are naturally beautiful as they are. Oshri himself says that he ultimately “wants to fall in love with the true beauty beyond all the layers we are forced to cover ourselves up with in order to look perfect”.

The unique video showcases a before and after makeup session in reverse; ultimately showcasing how beautiful a woman is even before applying anything that masks her true, natural self.

He explains: “I was deeply moved, almost to tears, when I asked one of my stunning lady friends to join me at the spur of the moment to go out. Through my eyes, she was beautiful just the way she was while we were just chilling at her place. Her reply was that there was no way she could go out the way she looked, and would need some time to get ready. I was astounded and shocked. Here was this gorgeous woman and yet she felt she’s not good enough? It got me thinking about the immense pressure we are all under to always look our best – expected to be perfect in every way, including the shape of our bodies. This haunted me for weeks on end until I eventually sat down and wrote ‘Too Much”.

The song was released as a single for radioplay and the video for ‘Too Much’ was also just released, displaying the process that women go through to “get ready to leave the house”, but in reverse. Oshri himself purposefully doesn’t appear in the video, as he poses one question and one message through the video: “If you take a look at the woman at the end of the video, and how she looks initially before applying all the makeup, don’t you agree that she is just as beautiful – if not more so – without all the makeup?”.

The video is the brainchild of Oshri and he selected Instagram makeup sensation, Elwa Saleh (@Elwa_), to star in it as she has more than 234,000 followers – thereby reaching as many people as possible with the message. “Yes, some might argue that Elwa is as beautiful as a model and not all girls are as stunning as she is. My response? My friend who inspired the song isn’t a model either and yet I think she’s gorgeous too. All women are naturally beautiful in their own way. Men in turn all have something attractive that make them unique in their own way. I truly hope that everyone who watches the video will take this message to heart,” says Oshri.
