So I’ve moved house over this past long weekend. It’s my 7th temporary home move within the past 3 years, yeah, that’s the life of a construction man’s family. So after so many moves, I could probably write a book on this whole moving thing. Here are 5 life hacks for those that are packing their bags.
Pack a first night box
Pack yourself a “first night” box with all your toiletries, some clothes, and anything you’ll need the following morning such as coffee, cups, clothes and of course, your undies.
Create a packing supplies box
I always forget where I leave the tape and scissors. Save yourself some time getting a box or a basket for supplies that you can carry with you from room to room.
Colour code boxes by room
Invest in some different coloured duct tapes and use these to colour co-ordinate the boxes belonging to each room. That way, at a glance you’ll know red boxes belong in the kitchen, blue boxes in the bedroom, etc
Cut holes in your boxes for easy lifting
By cutting little triangle-shaped hand holes in the sides of each box, you’ll be easing the lift.
Take pictures of your electronic device set-ups
When all you want to do is kick back and watch the TV on the first night at your new home, you probably won’t have the instruction manual to guide you how to do it. But by taking photographs of all the backs of your devices, it’ll be a simple game of copying.
