Dear Girl with the wide smile, I admire you – My Own Insecurities
August 21, 2018
I never smile widely in photos. It will be a rare occasion to catch a selfie of myself, all wide mouthed. I smile, yes, with my mouth closed, because well, my teeth aren’t perfectly straight. It’s strange how such a small thing can stop me from smiling widely, but it does. When I was growing up, it was all about the girl with the flawless, fair skin and perfect smile; sometimes I kinda think it still is about that.
I see many girls taking pictures and showing their pearls regardless of whether their teeth are perfect or not, and to be honest, I admire them. I admire them for wearing what could be seen as an imperfection by others, as something to be proud of!
They say that it doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you carry it off confidently, you will never look like a fool. There are so many girls that carry themselves with confidence despite any flaws that they may think they have, hats off to those ladies!
And just by the way, I do feel that my smile sucks when I do show all my pearls, but on the other hand, there had to be something great about it to make my husband fall in love with it.
There has been so much of body shaming going around. Bash with Tash, a well known local celeb has been body shamed and a very well known newspaper added in the unflattering picture of her in their article when they reported the incident. But why? Why should it matter to YOU, a complete stranger, whether I am fat or thin? Whether I eat donuts or salads? What difference does it make?
To all the women out there, that feel that they are flawed in some way; be it stretch marks, pimples or even weird teeth; remind yourself that these are the things that make you who you are. Embrace your flaws because nobody’s perfect, especially not the girl who looks like they are, because trust me; EVERYBODY has their own imperfections, it’s just that some are better at hiding it than others.
